The heart of Ethiopian hospitality—a sacred ritual that builds community, fosters deep connection, and celebrates friendship.
Step 01
Green Ethiopian coffee beans are washed and gently roasted over hot coals. Shaking the pan evenly fills the air with aromatic smoke—an ancient invite to step closer.
Step 02
The roasted beans are ground using a heavy wooden mortar and pestle called a "mukecha". The rhythmic thumping sound echoes comfortably, signaling the freshness of the grind.
Step 03
Ground grounds are poured into the "jebena"—a stunning clay pot featuring a spherical base and elegant neck. Placed on boiling coals, it slow-simmers into an intense extract.
Step 04
The elixir is poured gracefully from an elevated height into small cups called "sini." Guests are invited to pass around snacks like popcorn, celebrating across three traditional stages.
Each pour possesses a unique strength, meaning, and rhythm
The First Brew
The strongest and deepest extract. Served immediately to capture full impact, setting a respectful atmosphere for coming dialogues.
The Second Brew
Lighter flavor balance. Hot water is added to original grounds to spark comfortable, extended social context and family stories.
The Third Brew
The final blessing layer. "Baraka" directly translates to blessing—concluding with safe updates, peace keeping, and wishing well.
Frankincense ("etan") burns continuously to clarify environmental clarity and welcome healthy paths.
The ground area features fresh natural grass carpets, symbolizing prosperity, freshness, and earthy connections.
Freshly popped corn kernels alongside crunchy roasted barley ("kolo") accent the robust bitter notes.
